Circuit Breaker Lockout Devices

Enhanced Safety with The Panel Lockout Company

When it comes to electrical safety, The Panel Lockout Company provides industry-leading solutions designed to prevent accidental re-energization during maintenance. Our specialized circuit breaker lockouts tagout devices are engineered for durability and universal fit, ensuring that workers can secure power sources across various panel brands and breaker sizes.

Unlike generic alternatives, these devices feature a robust, non-conductive design that clamps securely onto the breaker switch. Once the circuit breaker lockout is in place, an electrician applies a personalized padlock and a highly visible “Danger” tag. This creates a physical and visual barrier, communicating that work is in progress, and the circuit must remain off.

By utilizing products from The Panel Lockout Company, facilities can strictly adhere to OSHA 1910.147 standards. These devices are essential for high-risk environments, providing the peace of mind that comes from a secure, tamper-resistant locking mechanism that saves lives by eliminating the risk of electrical shock or arc flash.

The Panel Lockout is a circuit breaker lockout tagout device that locks out the entire electrical panel. Circuit breakers remain locked off for electrician safety or locked on to prevent unauthorized shutdowns of critical equipment. Electrical lockout tagout is required by OSHA.

The Panel Lockout fits on panels 14 inches to 20 inches wide. Extensions are available for wider panels. Clips are available for panels without screws. The clips extend one inch beyond the panel on each side, so a six inch extension is required with the clips if the panel is over 18 inches wide.

Keeps the panel door locked and prevents the panel cover removal by encapsulating two panel screws.

Using the Panel Lockout during construction

During construction wires are pulled, but not terminated. These terminations are not made until the field side of the wire can be completed. With the use of the Panel Lockout, wires can be terminated into the live panel, circuit breakers turned off, and then the panel can be locked.  Locking out the panel prevents incomplete wiring from becoming live in the field. In addition, unterminated wire is subject to vandalism. Completing the terminations and locking out the panel can safeguard against wires being cut.

Another advantage to completing the terminations in the electrical panel is that deadlines can be more easily met. The electric closets often become a bottleneck in the last days of a project when all the terminations need to be completed. Finally, there is no searching for trims and panel covers for the electrical panels because the panels are already completed.

Frequently Asked Questions: The Panel Lockout Company

How do these devices ensure compliance with safety regulations?

The circuit breaker lockout devices from The Panel Lockout Company are specifically engineered to meet and exceed OSHA 1910.147 standards for the control of hazardous energy. By providing a physical restraint that cannot be bypassed without a key, these tools ensure your facility maintains a rigorous “One Worker, One Lock, One Key” policy, significantly reducing the risk of workplace accidents.

Will these lockout devices fit different brands of circuit breakers?

Yes. One of the primary advantages of choosing The Panel Lockout Company is the universal design of their hardware. These devices are built to be compatible with a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial breaker toggles. Whether you are working with older legacy panels or modern high-amperage systems, the adjustable clamping mechanisms provide a secure, slip-free fit.

What materials are used to ensure the devices are safe for electrical environments?

Safety in high-voltage areas is paramount, which is why these LOTO devices are constructed from durable, non-conductive polymers and reinforced nylon. These materials are spark-resistant and chemical-resistant, ensuring that the device itself does not become a path for electricity if an arc flash or electrical fault occurs during maintenance.

Can the lockout devices be used without a padlock?

While the devices physically clamp the breaker in the OFF position, they are designed to be used in conjunction with a safety padlock and tag. The device features a dedicated lockout hole that only stays secure once a padlock is inserted. This ensures that the circuit cannot be re-energized by anyone other than the technician holding the unique key, fulfilling the fundamental requirements of a true lockout tagout program.

Are these devices suitable for harsh industrial environments?

Absolutely. The Panel Lockout Company builds its hardware to withstand extreme temperatures and rugged use. The high-visibility colors are UV-stabilized to prevent fading, ensuring that danger warnings remain legible even in outdoor panels or high-heat manufacturing floors. Their tamper-resistant design ensures that once locked, the device remains immovable until the authorized personnel returns.
